If you are searching for a mobile home electrician near you, here is what a hookup involves, how fast we can move, and what to line up before we arrive.

What a hookup includes, step by step

Every site is different, so the exact scope depends on your lot and your home. In general, getting power to a mobile or manufactured home involves these pieces:

  1. The service point. Power reaches the home through a service pole or pedestal near the home, or a service on a nearby structure. This is where the meter and main disconnect live.
  2. The meter base. The meter base is where the power company’s meter plugs in. It has to be the right type and installed correctly before the power company will connect.
  3. The feeder to the home. Wire runs from the service point to the home, either overhead or underground, sized for the load.
  4. The disconnect and the home’s panel. The home needs its own panel and the right connection to it.
  5. Grounding. Proper grounding and bonding are what make the system safe, and it is one of the first things an inspector checks.
  6. Inspection and connection. Most jobs need a permit and an inspection, and then the power company connects service.

We will tell you on the phone which parts of that list we handle for your setup and which parts you or your power provider handle. Describe your lot and your home, and we will tell you where we fit in.

New single-wide and double-wide setups

For a new setup, it helps to call us before the home is delivered. We can tell you where the service point should go so the feeder run is short, the pole or pedestal is easy to reach, and nothing has to be moved after set-up. A single-wide and a double-wide usually need different service sizes, and we will help you work out what your home calls for. Our guide to mobile home power pole requirements explains what inspectors and power providers tend to look for.

Power poles and meter bases: what your power provider needs before it connects

The power company does not connect service until the electrical side passes inspection and the equipment meets their rules. Those rules can differ from one provider to the next. Call your power provider early to ask about their requirements for meter bases, pole height, and clearances, and tell us what they say. We work to those requirements so the connection is not held up at the last step.

A 200-amp service is a common size for a home with electric heat, an air conditioner, and typical appliances, though your home may call for something different. Our write-up on what a 200-amp power pole means for a mobile home is a good starting point.

How fast we schedule

We move quickly when the site is ready. On one hookup near Greeneville, we quoted the job the same day the homeowner called and finished the work three days later, in just a few hours on site. That is not a promise for every job. Permits, inspections, the power company’s schedule, and ground conditions all play a part. But we will not leave you waiting for a call back.

Where we do hookups

We work in Greene County first, including Greeneville, Afton, Mosheim, Tusculum, Chuckey, Baileyton, and Limestone. We also take hookups in Cocke County around Newport and Parrottsville, and in Hamblen County around Morristown. If you are farther out, call us and ask. See our service areas page for drive times from Greeneville.

What affects the cost

Hookup costs vary a lot. The big factors are how far the home sits from the service point, whether the wire runs overhead or underground, the service size, the condition of the home’s own panel, and permit and inspection steps. We do not post prices online. Call us with your lot details, and we will tell you the price before any work starts. Our guide on the cost to hook up electric to a mobile home breaks down what drives the number.

Questions

Mobile home hookup questions

Straight answers about pricing and how we work. Don’t see your question? Call Nick.

Do I need a power pole, or can the meter go on the home?

That depends on the home, the lot, and what your power provider allows. Many setups use a service pole or pedestal near the home. Call us with the details, and we will tell you what is likely; then you can confirm the provider's rules.

Can you hook up a used or older mobile home?

Often, yes. Older homes need a closer look at the home's panel and wiring first. If something inside the home needs repair, our mobile home electrical repair page explains how we handle it.

Do I need a permit for a mobile home hookup?

Usually, yes. A permit and inspection are normally part of getting power turned on, and the rules differ by county and city. We confirm what applies to your address before we schedule.

What should I do before you come out?

Know where the home will sit, mark where you want the service point, and call your power provider to ask about their requirements. Photos of the lot help us give you a better phone estimate.

Do you also work on the panel inside the home?

Yes. If the home's panel needs to be replaced as part of the hookup, we handle that too. Our panel upgrade page covers that work in detail.
